How do I calculate the cost of a car ride?

You can calculate the cost of a car ride with the formula: (distance in km ÷ 100) × consumption (l/100 km) × fuel price ($/l). For a 250 km route, consumption of 8 l/100 km, and fuel priced at $0.90/l, that's 250 ÷ 100 × 8 × 0.90 = $18 in fuel alone. The calculator above computes this automatically — enter the distance manually or fetch it from the GPS map. If you're looking for someone to share costs with, check the listings on the home page or send a package along the way — you'll find the full walkthrough in the Guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 100 km car ride cost?

At an average consumption of 8 l/100 km and a fuel price of $0.90/l, 100 km costs about $7.20 in fuel alone (8 × $0.90). The real cost can be higher with toll and parking fees — add those separately.

How much cheaper is a shared ride?

Splitting the fuel cost with one passenger, you pay half. For a route costing $18, you'd pay $9, and with two passengers — about $6, i.e. one third. CO₂ emissions per person drop in the same proportion.

Does the calculator only count fuel, or also vehicle wear?

The An7Way calculator computes fuel cost and CO₂ emissions. It doesn't include depreciation, insurance, or servicing — if you want to estimate the full running cost, add about 20–30% to the result for vehicle wear.
